Sylvia goes to a Wedding

So here we are in Montreal at Wedding. Sylvia dons cashmere twin set and tights and for the very first time repeats her own name over and over "Silia". Back in USA now and thinking about Faith and Love. And also about applying to the Auburn Culture Council for an arts grant to do something around the process or being a landed immigrant. Deadline October 15. Sylvia is a natural Montrealer by the way

back in the USA
a landed immigrant now
today at the Worcester Library with S. for a storytelling and nursery rhyme extravaganza. Sylvia a social and silly and completely innocently grooving to the music. Why is it that I feel my heart is going to split right open when I look at her sometimes. I'm gaining confidence with the traffic (simply had to) and so we are off to all sorts of places and things...it is all so in contrast to where I once was

oi so abstract

Part of some big glass building downtown. Figuring a daily practice is in order. Slowly pulling out my sketchbook. Acorns . Bits of nature. Metal. Glass. I'll post a drawing within 7 days.

Make Way for Ducklings

This blog should be called Postcards of Sylvia in America. Today Sylvia and I spent a couple of hours in the Boston Public Gardens communing with bronze ducklings. A little girl called Fiona let me know that Sylvia was dirty...I call it urban chic. Oi. Mark read a slogan on a truck on the drive in that read "Unsliced bread. The best thing since sliced bread". Go figure. Weird world this. Sylvia scored free pizza at Whole Foods...the kid will never go hungry!

Sunday

So hot here we are melting. Sylvia naps under shade tree.
Made more inroads to Boston and area in the last few days.
A generous farmer gave Sylvia a pint of raspberries at the Waltham Farmer's Market yesterday. We happened across the Market as we were taking the slow road to Boston where we stopped and bought a lunch of paysan bread and a very good local sharp cheddar to eat at the shady Common across the way. Spent the rest of the afternoon exploring JP and the Harvard Arboretum. Sylvia immediately loved the Arboretum which is basically a very big walled garden with lots of paths and trees and some people with kids and dogs. We lay under some kind of Cork tree whilst Sylvia ran to and fro with a couple of sticks. She must have run a mile. Seems okay to be in Big Bad Boston sometimes. I like the Arboretum and can imagine spending lots of time there.

Thursday

Waiting for coffee to brew. The rest of the house sleeps. Rained in the night so the air feels cooler today. Into the city today. Mark to search for work and me and Sylvia to meet up with a Mom and kids in a park off the Charles River in Cambridge. We happened upon them last Friday as we were looking for a quiet place to sit with Sylvia. Fairly easy to meet people with a Sylvia forging the way. Free night at the ICA so we may end up there to see the Shepard Farey show (sp). in its last week.

Tuesday

Currently we live with Mark's Mum in Auburn as we try to navigate our way to the next step. Auburn is a suburb of Worcester about an hour out of Boston. In back of the house there is a big corn field with trees beyond and then a few hills in the distance. The field has become my Bay of Fundy: big expanse of colour in this case green. Sylvia waking up.
